Romeo & Juliet’s Café,
North London

The Brief

Romeo & Juliet’s is a charming café created for dog lovers at the heart of Hampstead Garden Suburb. We were entrusted with delivering a full turnkey service, from early concept and layout planning, through branding, interior design, website creation, menus, and food safety, to styling and initial marketing, bringing R&J’s idea to reality.

Above, purple wisteria and green leaves hang from the ceiling with hanging light bulbs. The background features white brick walls, framed pictures of teapots and china, and a collage of photos. An open kitchen area with white cabinets is visible through an open doorway, with a sign that reads 'Romeo & Julieta Secret Garden' hanging nearby.

“Her attention to detail, creative clarity, and ability to manage contractors, timelines, and budgets made the entire process smooth and collaborative”

“Brooke Harmony Design delivered far more than a café interior, they created a refined, highly functional space with strong visual identity. Romeo & Juliet’s Dog Café in London has become a destination thanks to its distinctive, well considered design. Brooke has a rare ability to balance elegance with durability. Every material and colour choice was intentional, resulting in an environment that feels elevated yet practical. She also carefully incorporated the operational insights I provided as café consultant, ensuring the layout worked seamlessly for staff. Working with Brooke was a pleasure, and I would wholeheartedly recommend her.”

Design Challenges & Solutions

Designing for a café that welcomes both dogs and their humans meant thinking from the perspective of dogs and their owners. We developed a spacious, pared-back table layout to allow plenty of room for dogs and people to move comfortably.

Within the restroom facilities, we cleverly integrated a baby changing station with a cosy dog bed tucked beneath. With limited space behind the counter, the menu was crafted to work seamlessly with minimal machinery, a process planned in close collaboration with our menu consultant.

  • Working with her was an absolute dream: organised, imaginative, collaborative, and with just the right amount of sass to keep everyone on track. If you’re lucky enough to have Brooke Harmony on your project, prepare to be impressed!

  • “Hiring Brooke was the best decision we made when starting up The Thin White Duke Soho. She was instrumental in every step of the planning and construction process from beginning to end. Three years on, we still rely on her for drawings and advice on anything to do with build outs and interiors and can't imagine using anyone else in the future.

Brooke is very clever, resourceful, tasteful, reliable, responsive, honest and intelligent. When we could not attend our weekly site meetings, she attended in our place and we had no doubt that whatever decisions she made were the right ones. I could not recommend her enough.”

  • “Brooke was assigned by us for interior design of our 4 bed home in Peckham. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with her. She is super responsive and patient and has approached the process in a very organised manner. She has always shared multiple options / choices and has been quite respectful of our preferences. On the other hand she has also pushed us in the right direction and stopped us from taking a wrong call. Overall it was very collaborative and we are very happy with the final results (it feels like something we have achieved together and not just been talked into). It is also worth mentioning that there were awkward architectural elements of the property. Brooke was very patient with trying to find right solution for us.”
